Zen, Credibility, Design, Communities
☕ Good Morning!
Leo Babauta from zen habits kicks off our day in a podcast with Minaal, speaking about how you can look after your mental resilience in these difficult times. Leo also mentions the Wim Hof Method, which from personal experience, with its morning breathing exercises and cold shower is a fantastic way to reduce anxiety and kick off the day in a calm state of mind. Listen to the full podcast here.
🚀 Maker Stories
After writing free content for five years, Lee Robinson realized he had been building a community and more importantly trust and credibility, but made no money. Last year then created a course, published it on Gumroad, and after 10 days reached $3,000. Read his full story here and the Indie Hackers Twitter Thread here.
🏗️ Build + Launch
In The Psychology Of Design, yourproductguy lists the “101 Cognitive Biases & Principles That Affect Your UX”. This is a great resource for improving user experience as it helps you understand the biases & heuristics affecting the four decision-cycle steps: Information, Meaning, Time, and Memory. View the list of cognitive biases and design principles (with examples and tips) here.
Blush, which was launched by Pablo Stanley on Product Hunt yesterday, is one of the best design/illustration resources I have come across. Blush is an illustration builder where you can mix and match colors, characters, layouts, and other elements. This is an extremely useful tool for all Makers looking to fill their MVPs and websites with great imagery. Pablo collaborated on this project with other brilliant illustrators including Bonnie Kate Wolf, Isabela Humphrey, Elsma Ramirez, and elina_ce. You can vote it up on Product Hunt here and visit the website here.
And yet again Dru Riley gifts us with a brilliant Trends Report, this time on Paid Communities. As always, the resource contains a list of the key players, market predictions, business opportunities, and links for further reading. Particularly agree that Hyperniche media companies will be well-positioned for paid communities. View the full report here.
💭 Afterthought
To finish off Tuesday, a snapshot by Adam Ryan of his dog’s hairdo, 60 days into quarantine. I admit, our dog’s hairstyle is pretty similar! I’m sure their masters don’t look much different 😆 Have a great evening everyone!
