☕ Good Morning!
Nick DeSantis from The Hustle reports that although things look bleak and it will still be some time before things return to normal, a few of the harder hit industries are showing signs of life, as the US slowly reopens. Consumer confidence is stabilizing, people are beginning to go back to restaurants, hotels & airlines are seeing more travelers and new homes sales went up by ~1% in April compared to March, despite an expected fall of 22%. 🚀 Maker News
Pete shares a great read on effective SEO, written by Harry Dry from Marketing Examples. The post explains how Nomad List by levelsio autogenerates thousands of pages which are then indexed by search engines. How is this done? In short, every possible filter query of the database, and there are lots of filters on this site, generates a unique page with a long-tail keyword, which is placed in the URL, site title and h1 tag. Many of these keywords face little competition and suck up traffic with no work. It definitely beats writing a blog post for every keyword! Read the full post here and learn more about how it’s done.
🏗️ Build + Launch
A great read, written by Steve LeVine for Marker by Medium on how the “pandemic is compressing and accelerating trends”. In the article, he explains that “pandemics have left varying, sometimes momentous impacts on the societies in which they have occurred” and Covid-19 will do the same by “vastly speeding up some potent trends” such as the automation of jobs for example. Cliff Kupchan, chairman of the Eurasia Group, points out that in such an environment, all trends feel the pressure and that “only the fittest survive. You have a Darwinian moment for trends.” Read the full story here.
Scott Hines from Action Cookbook, who took part in Substack’s first writer workshop series two days ago, has provided us with an insightful summary of the discussion. His five key learnings on how to find success focus on presentation, consistency, incentive, promotion, and most importantly to be yourself and write your own story. He accurately points out that “you just have to put something on the page. Don’t wait for something perfect to appear fully-formed. Find a fragment of an idea and commit to it. Nurture it. Run with it, and see where you end up. Chances are you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the result.” This is so true! Read the full summary or listen to the recording here.
