Email, Privacy, Games 🎰
👋 Welcome!
Jared Evers from Campaign Monitor has written an in-depth post on the long-term effects Basecamp’s HEY could have on email marketing. Two differences to other email services are that Hey always requires consent from the subscriber and that there is no tracking. Privacy is 100% guaranteed. It’s true that compared to Gmail, HEY is still very small. But with privacy regulations across the world (GDPR, CCPA) growing to protect consumers, these new email features will undoubtedly become more visible in the years to come. The article provides a number of tips on how best to present emails to Hey users as well as how to adapt personalisation and reporting going forward. Jared concludes, that many of the changes will reinforce best practices, which would be a better result for everyone. In the end “email marketers learn from new trends and make email better for all recipients.” Read the full post.

Lenny Rachitsky’s latest newsletter does a deep dive on how the fastest-growing B2B businesses found their first 10 customers. In summary, only three sourcing strategies account for a B2B’s early growth. These are tapping one’s personal network, seeking out customers where they are active (developer communities, Hacker News, Twitter, etc.) and getting into the press (most difficult in early-stage). Learn more from the companies below in the newsletter. Read here.

Gamification
I look forward to these Trend reports by Dru Riley every week. This time it’s all about gamification. Gamification applies game design to real-world activities. Examples include points or miles given by hotels and airlines or notifications sent by social media apps. These tools help push adoption, retention and growth of a product or service. Dru lists opportunities you can implement such as a referral or loyalty program for newsletters to grow your subscriber base. As always there are links for further reading and learning. Read the report or buy Trends Pro report for more in-depth research.
