Basics, Writing, Ideas, Tips
☕ Good Morning!
I hope everyone had an energizing weekend! To kick off the day, an article by the New Scientist on the two-year universal basic income experiment in Finland. This is not only a hot topic but also a divisive one. The findings of this study indicated that basic income doesn’t seem to provide a disincentive for people to work. Minna Ylikännö at the Social Insurance Institution of Finland thinks “it would bring people security in very insecure situations when they don’t know whether they’re going to have an income” such as the economic fallout from the current Covid-19 pandemic. 🚀 Maker Stories
Great Indie Hackers podcast by Courtland Allen with non-other than Sam Parr, founder of The Hustle. They discuss growth strategies for media businesses, advertising vs subscription revenue, and why learning to write is so critical for all founders. Especially interesting for all those focused on newsletters. Listen to the full podcast here.
And if you haven’t got time to listen to the full podcast above, Proful Sadangi has provided us with his brilliant sketch notes which give a great summary of their discussion.
🏗️ Build + Launch
A helpful and insightful post by Justin Jackson, co-founder of Transistor, on exploring and building on ideas. He disagrees with John Doerr, the VC, who said “Ideas are easy. Execution is everything.” He believes that “the results of your execution hinge on the strength of your original idea”. And good and original ideas take time to find, so let the bad ones fall away and wait until you feel there’s a demand in the market and then execute. Read the full post here and learn more about the framework Justin uses from ideation to execution.
🖥️ NoCode
I stumbled upon this Tweet yesterday and found it very helpful. Toby Allen’s Medium post, on the top 10 tips for using Integromat, Airtable, and Webflow together is a great resource for all NoCoders. Read the full post here.
And if you’re still hungry for more, Ninox is hosting an online event this Thursday, 14th May titled “The 2nd Digital Revolution - Create the future with No-Code”. Partners include among others Integromat and Bubble. It’s free and you can signup here.
